The Fitness Tools I Use

A breakdown of the tools that work for me...

One of the questions I get asked most often from people beginning their fitness journey is what apps I use to track things. While I do use a number of apps to track calories, my workouts, my sleep, and other things, its important to recognize that these apps and devices are merely tools to help you achieve your goals. Downloading an app or buying an Apple watch won’t magically make you more fit, but it will give you access to information that will allow you to make the most of your efforts.

On the flip side, you can be perfectly fit without any of these tools, after all people have been getting in shape and working on their fitness long before any of these apps or devices came along.

Now disclaimers aside, here are apps and devices that I personally use and recommend to my clients. I know what you’re thinking, and the answer is no. None of these apps or devices are paying me anything. I genuinely use them in my day to day.

Calorie Tracking
There are many apps on the market, but the most accurate and the one that is commonly used, is the MyFitnessPal. It has close to accurate tracking of calories and macros. You’ll find the majority of the foods you eat you can search and click to add.

Workout Tracker
I personally have used hevy, but these days certain wearable devices like the apple watch and whoop have workout tracking built in.

Health and Fitness Tracker
This is a very saturated market. At one point, Fitbit was the biggest fish in the pond, but Apple Watch and Garmin have taken over. I’ve been using Whoop of the last 2 years. Personally I find that for my goals, my levels of activity and the active lifestyle that I want to live, the Whoop is the best option for me. Howerver, it doesn’t really matter which one you pick, especially if you’re just starting out. They all have the same basic functionality.

Hope this helps, please do reach out if you have any questions or suggestions for tools that I may have missed.

Stay fit,
Rafi Hussaini
